| Imodium?? |
|
|
| |
So I've heard many people recommend Imodium during the withdrawal process as it seems to calm some of the symptoms. My question is, since Imodium has some kind of partial opiate in it, will I go into precipitated withdrawals if I take it a few hours before taking suboxone? Basically, can it be used to ease the withdrawals while tapering from subs or should it not be used until the actual jump? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Down to .75 mg and needing help during the night. Thanks!

Ok,
For one I don't believe it is a partial opiate at all. Where exactly does it say this? I would use it sparingly.... Your stomach gets rocky, its good the next your in the bathroom. I think all of it needs to come out. If your stomach is upset to where you cannot tolerate, you have the poops, gas, and bloating. Then yes maybe take half a pill or one. With sub withdrawal it's a matter of the person and their personal battle. In full agonist withdrawal hell I was popping those things like candy lol.... _________________ “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” -Ernest Hemingway

Immodium is chemically very similar to Demerol, BUT Immodium does not cross the blood brain barrier, so you ain't gonna get high off of it. Immodium does a heck of a job at slowing down your "bathroom" issues because, to the best of my knowledge, your guts are lined with some kinda opiate receptors too and Immodium, being chemically very similar to an opiate, fills those receptors and calms things down.
As far as I know, Immodium will not cause any kind of prec. wd. either because it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier.
I took Immodium during my Suboxone wd, it helped me to stop crapping every 30 seconds. However, I didn't take Immodium for too long, maybe a week or two, I didn't want to develop any kind of dependence on it. _________________ Be kind to yourself. Our character defects do NOT define who we are!

Hmm I did not know this! I thought it was a load of crap literally hahaha. Who would have thought not me. Yeah I wouldn't get too dependent on that. Your body regulates itself at some point unless your like a friend of mine who actually has issues in that department never ending..
Thanks Romeo for clarifying ^_^ _________________ “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” -Ernest Hemingway

There was this idea that loperamide / imodium helped ease withdrawal symptoms in general ... I tried it and it didn't help with much particularly except those nasty runs like Romeo said. Which is still really useful.
I highly doubt there would be any kind of precipitated withdrawal. I'm really unsure how susceptible we are to PW if our main opioid of dependency is Sub. I used to take heroin while on Sub a fair bit, and if I'd only used once I could have my Sub 12 hours after using with zero PW.

Thank you so much for the informative replies. I can't believe how quickly people reply on here and how helpful they are. I haven't tried the Imodium yet because I wanted to make sure it wouldn't do more harm than good. So now that I know, I may try it soon, although I don't expect much relief. Anything is good though. It's just those last 2 hours before my next dose that get really tough. It seems that it is getting a bit better and the withdrawals aren't as intense (not that they were too intense anyway). Here's hoping! Thanks again!
