Cutting down Rx / Whose choice is it? Reply with quote

hello. i have been going to the same doctor close to 2 years. i guess i started with 3 per day and then so on. now im at about 2 a day. the doc said there is a time where i will have to quit. my question is do i have to agree to taper down. subs are the only thing that work i have quit before and gone back to oxy. is sub ok for long term everyday use and can doctors prescribe it lifetime or is there a maximum time you can spend with one doctor. also can i just say i want to stay at 2 8mg a day or im going somewhere else?

You don't have to agree to taper down, as long as you can find a doctor who will prescribe it to you. I've never heard of a maximum time that you can spend with one doctor. From what I understand, they can prescribe it to you for life if that is what you decide is best for you. You can definitely find another doctor if your current doctor will not continue prescribing it for you long term. If that is the case, I would say that the sooner you find another doctor, the better...so they can't just cut you off all of a sudden.

I guess some doctors are reluctant to prescribe this med long term because of the side effects and maybe because of their lack of knowlege since there haven't been enough studies done on it?? But some, like my doctor, feel that long term maintenance is better than relapsing. Good luck, hope you find a doctor who will treat you in a way that you are comfortable.

My doctor left the decision up to me. I just slowly did it and he said to listen to my body. Come to think of it, I should probably call him up and let him know that I have been off of it for two weeks+
