There are some interesting developments in the world of pain treatment and opiate depedence. A small company called 'nanotherapeutics' is working on a pill form of buprenorphine/naloxone that would be swallowed... as in 'goodbye bad taste!'. There are more and more agonist/antagonist combination meds coming out; Embeda from King pharma is already on the market, and consists of morphine surrounding a core of naltrexone, that is released if the substance is crushed.

I have seen reports of dissovable strips of buprenorphine, injectable depot buprenorphine, and other non-bupe derivatives to treat opiate dependence (see addiction therapeutix in Wisconsin, for example). There are also trials underway looking at meds like proglumide, to be used to reduce tolerance or treat opioid withdrawal. I think that the increasing number of people on buprenorphine makes the development of tapering formulations and treatments for withdrawal a natural no-brainer!

If you know of new developments in this area, please share them!... From suboxforum.com
