This forum is a place for addicts and for those who love them to discuss addiction, particularly addiction to opiates (pain pills). Please join us to discuss symptoms, patterns, consequences, and treatment of opiate dependence. Recognizing that opiate dependence is a potentially fatal disease, we respect ALL effective treatments for opiate dependence, whether or not the treatment includes buprenorphine or Suboxone.
Active threads include discussions about Suboxone withdrawal, side effects, how to taper Suboxone or buprenorphine, and issues related to Suboxone induction. We also invite discussion of methadone maintenance and abstinence-based recovery. We invite new members to share their personal stories about addiction, including insights they may have gained during their struggles. One of the site’s founders, Jeffrey T Junig MD PhD, has an active psychiatric practice that includes treating opioid dependence with or without the use of buprenorphine. He provides a medical perspective and discusses the newest findings related to addiction and buprenorphine.
If you are not yet a member of the forum, please sign up and join us in our discussions.
Membership is absolutely free. I only ask that you remember the following rules of this forum:
This forum is for people who have made their choice whether it be for Suboxone, for Methadone, or for meetings and no medication. While I recognize that some readers are not yet at the end of that choosing process, I ask that they read the information and make their decision without encouraging debate on the forum.
PLEASE Do not get into debating which is better-- such debates never change minds, and often introduce false information that clouds intelligent decision-making.
Show the respect for the decisions of others and avoid personal attacks.
We put this forum together to raise awareness of the current epidemic of opioid dependence, to foster open discussion about the disease of addiction, and to further education about the proper use of buprenorphine. We receive no compensation from outside sources beyond a few bucks per year from Google Adsense. Specifically, we receive NO compensation from pharmaceutical companies, including Reckitt-Benckiser, the maker of Suboxone and Subutex. We have no interest in furthering ANY agenda, other than a general goal of reducing the number of deaths from addiction. If you are interested in supporting this site through donations or advertising, please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Any relationship with advertisers will be disclosed here. If you are a billionaire, hate addiction and want to buy everyone a super-charged forum, we would be willing to struggle with the moral issues caused by accepting your generous gift.
General Comments from Subox Doc Items of interest from my practice and academia, and political or regulatory information about buprenorphine and addiction. If you have something that you would like me to address, send me an e-mail.
Introductions New here? Old here? Please take a moment when you have time and say a bit about yourself-- without saying enough to be identified. Or if you want to be identified, tell us about your web page or anything else-- let's try to use this space to talk about what we are proud of, and save our using stories for that section.
Surgery on Suboxone Can I have surgery on Suboxone? Will anesthesia work with Suboxone? Will I wake up during surgery on Suboxone? My surgeon wants me to stop Suboxone! How can I treat pain on Suboxone?
Why the Anger? Why is the anti-Suboxone crowd so angry? Tell me your 'theory', or your guess. Whether it is toward my youtube videos, this forum, my practice... the anti-sub folks call me a 'greedy pusher' without knowing anything about me! I'm sure many of you have done battle as well. Just what is their problem, anyway?!
Taking New Patients? Please avoid bashing doctors in this section. If you give your doc a 'thumbs up' and the practice is accepting patients, list the practice here, by state. Or if you NEED a doc, this is the place to ask for suggestions.
Family Stories It is important to realize that our own perceptions well be altered by addiction; the road to true self-awareness requires listening what is said by others who know us, particularly if the also hope for the best for us. With that in mind, please post if you have family members or other close friends with addictions.
Damn Pharmacist/Doctor Stories The pharmacist eyes you suspiciously, and suddenly you wished you had shaved earlier this morning... your second-grade teacher is in line behind you, talking to your girlfriends mother... as the pharmacist yells for all to hear, 'I'm sick of YOU PEOPLE-- and I'm not filling this for you anymore!' Or your doctor, after increasing your pain meds for years, suddenly treats you like a criminal...
Damn Insurer Stories and Questions Doesn't necessarily have to be BAD news, right? Does your insurer cover Suboxone? Having trouble getting insurance to pay? Does your state medicaid program cover Suboxone? Have a beef with your insurer? Vent here!
Links Have an interesting site about addiction? Add it here! Try to make categories as we go, keeping things as organized as possible... but if you have a link that won't fit in a category, make a new one! To place a link, hit 'reply to topic', then write a sentence or two about the link, then drop down a couple lines... then click on the logo of the earth/chain link. Enter the URL in the box; in the next box enter the site name-- Voila!
